Cambridge DELTA Module 2
What is DELTA Module 2?
Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is an in-service teacher training course that provides professional development for experienced English language teachers. The course is a blend of theory and practice and consists of 3 separate modules:
- Module 1 focuses on the background to teaching and learning.
- Module 2 focuses on developing classroom practice.
- Module 3 focuses on a specialist option.
For more information about DELTA, please visit Cambridge Assessment English.
Who can apply to take DELTA Module 2?
DELTA Module 2 is suitable for in-service teachers of English who have had a minimum of 2 years full-time, post-CELTA experience teaching a variety of learner levels. Often, candidates tackle Module 2 after completing DELTA Module 1, but some candidates take Module 2 alongside a master’s programme or other professional development, or as a qualification in its own right. Candidates for Module 2 need to have access to a class of at least 5 learners they can teach face-to-face for the 5 teaching assignments. These classes can be in any relevant teaching context – adult, primary or secondary.
Note that Module 1 can be completed 100% online with a live exam. Languages International is able to host candidates for the Module 1 exam; please contact the Director of Studies for more information.
Course delivery
This is a blended course. Inputs are delivered by Languages International’s Teacher Training team via an online meeting platform, such as Zoom. There is a significant self-study component. Tutorials are also conducted via an online meeting platform. You teach your own face-to-face classes, observed by the trainer either on-site or remotely via an online meeting platform.
Candidates must be computer literate and have access to a fast, reliable internet connection.
Course content
Candidates need to complete 5 teaching assignments. Each teaching assignment involves a background essay on a specific topic, a 1-hour observed lesson, supported by a full lesson plan and materials, and a post-lesson reflection. After each assignment, there is a tutorial with the trainer.
Over the course, candidates complete:
- 1 unassessed but observed diagnostic lesson.
- 3 internally-assessed lessons. These are observed and assessed by a Languages International trainer.
- 1 externally-assessed lesson. This is observed and assessed by a Cambridge-approved assessor.
- 1 professional development assignment.
- 10 hours’ observation of experienced teachers. These can be live or recorded.
There is also input directly related to the assessed outputs of the DELTA Module 2.
Costs
